Thiago de Faria - Team Topologies Advocate
After years in theoretical mathematics and probability, I realized I wanted something more applied. That led me deep into algorithms and optimization. A few years in, I recognized the need to better understand systems engineering... then I discovered and wasn an early adopter of DevOps, and everything clicked.
Fast forward a few years, and I noticed that the biggest challenges weren't just technical - they were about people and communication. So, I moved into leadership roles, focusing on building happy teams that were curious about the business. After a decade in leadership, I transitioned back to an individual contributor role as freelance Modernization Architect, and now working as a Specialist Solutions Architect at AWS - only working on modernization architecture.
My journey has taken me from academic research, to the public sector, to companies like KLM, Nike, ASML, and many more. In parallel to AWS, I'm a bit back at the Academy through research at the Antwerp Management School on team communication patterns, decision-making, IT/Business alignment and enterprise architecture.
No matter where I go and look, I see that "fear of change" and miscommunication is the common denominator. I've learned many valuable lessons and led enabling teams in architecture modernization and data platform development, building deep expertise in Data, ML, AI, and Distributed Systems... and if there is one thing you can always expect from me, that is Kindness.

Currently, I'm pursuing another MSc—an Executive Master's at Antwerp Management School—focusing on Team Cognitive Load, Communication Patterns, and AI. Expect more official research content soon! 😃
